Blaine County Safe Streets & Roads for All (SS4A)

Safety Action Planning Process

The Western Transportation Institute (WTI) at Montana State University received funding from the Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) program to work with Blaine County and community members to create a Safety Action Plan for Blaine County. Together, we will identify transportation safety concerns and find ways to make travel safer for everyone. This includes people who walk, bike, drive, ride, or use other ways to get around. We will listen, learn from local knowledge and experiences, and work together to create a Safety Action Plan that reflects the county’s needs, values, and priorities.

The Safety Action Plan will be developed using a holistic strategy which includes the following seven components:

Why Develop a Plan?

Everyone deserves to travel safely—whether walking, biking, riding a horse, or driving a car, tractor, or ATV. The project goals are to reduce, then eliminate, fatal and serious injury crashes and make roads safer and easier to use for people of all ages in our community.

This project brings federal funding to help your community:

  • Create a Safety Action Plan
  • Try out new safety ideas with small, quick projects
  • Make it safer for students to walk and bike to school

A Safety Action Plan is needed before a community can apply for more SS4A funding. Once the plan is finished, Blaine County can apply for future grants to help pay for the safety projects and improvements identified in the plan.
