Training and Tools to Support Social Norms Messaging in Ohio

ABSTRACT:

The Center for Health and Safety Culture in the Western Transportation Institute of Montana State University partnered with Drug Free Action Alliance in Ohio to provide training and tools to enhance the capacity of coalitions in Ohio to deliver effective communication efforts based on social norm theories.  The specific focus of this project was to provide a one-day training in Ohio for representatives of community-based coalition working on addressing substance abuse, mental health and related issues. In addition, communication tools were developed and provided to the communities to help frame communication efforts. Initial focus for the communities was the importance of assessing actual norms in their communities with a particular focus on promoting the upcoming student survey in their schools.

OBJECTIVE:

The objective of this project is to provide training and tools to enhance the capacity of coalitions in Ohio to deliver effective communication efforts based on social norm theories.
