ODOT Automated Bridge Survey

Project #: 4WA827
Start Date: 10/01/2023
End Date: 09/30/2024
Status: Current
OBJECTIVE:

The WTI team will provide technical support to OSU as they use advanced 2D and 3D laser imaging technology to collect and analyze bridge deck and approach data that automatically surveys the condition and roughness of the pavement. The WTI team will also help monitor the impact of truck loading on bridge approaches and structures with the purpose of establishing an empirical relationship between bridge condition and dynamic loading from trucks. Finally, the WTI team will provide as-needed technical assistance to OSU as they install strain gauges, accelerometers, and other measurement devices to bridges to collect real-time bridge loading and strain information.

Benefits: Determining a relationship between, and reducing the labor required to assess, bridge condition and truck traffic will make bridges easier to maintain, and therefore safer and more cost effective for road users and maintenance professionals.
