Central Federal Lands Transportation Assistance
Started: May, 2013 Ended: September, 2016 Project ID #4W4410 Status: Completed
Objective
The objective of this project is to provide transportation planning services to units of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services.
Abstract
The USFWS National Refuge System is comprised of more than 540 national wildlife refuges and more than 3000 breeding and nesting sites. These refuges attract more than 37 million annual visitors. The USFWS requires assistance planning and facilitating transportation services and access to and within these refuges. Through this project, WTI provided planning services and assistance to USFWS headquarters and to specific units, to help with tasks such as identifying where transportation needs exist, identifying appropriate modes of access for a refuge, identifying cost-effective and efficient investments, and identifying opportunities to integrate refuges with the transportation systems of surrounding communities. This planning assistance was provided by transportation specialists who were assigned to USFWS headquarters or specific sites to conduct special projects for a defined period.
