Integration of Aviation AWOS with RWIS, Phase 3
Started: February, 2017 End Date: February, 2019 Project ID #4w6557 Status: Ongoing
Objective
The objective of this project is to assist the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) with ongoing development of Aviation WeatherShare, a weather information and forecasting website.
Abstract
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) does not have a standard centralized aviation weather monitoring system accessible to all aviation user and facilities in California. Four years ago, the Caltrans Division of Aeronautics began a research project with WTI to integrate various aviation weather information data with the Roadside Weather Information System (RWIS) data. The project development team launched a website referred to as Aviation WeatherShare (http://aviation.weathershare.org) with a prototype system that displays important aviation weather information and forecasts for the entire State, integrating a range of data from numerous sources. The project has been renamed Aviation Weather Information to avoid confusion with other, related projects. Through this third phase, WTI will provide consulting services and technical support to Caltrans, which will facilitate migration of the system to Caltrans and guide maintenance and support by Caltrans IT staff.
