MDT Research Implementation Plan
Started: August, 2014 Ended: February, 2015 Project ID #4W5046 Status: Completed
Objective
The purpose of project is for the Western Transportation Institute (WTI) to assist the Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) in creating a formalized process for implementing research conducted on their behalf.
Abstract
MDT focuses on applied research to “answer questions and solve issues.” The benefit of this is that upon completion of many of the research projects, an implementable solution should be recommended. Currently, MDT creates an implementation report to discuss the research recommendations provided by the consultant and to provide responses to these recommendations. However, MDT is interested in creating a formal process for implementing these research outcomes.
Many other states (at least 19) have already created a formalized process for implementing research. This work will allow MDT to compare and contrast the different processes and policies being used in other states, so MDT can evaluate alternatives and choose the processes and policies that will work best for the department.
