Responder Field Test - UTC
Started: January, 2006 Ended: December, 2006 Project ID #4W0938 (012345) (012345) Status: Completed
Objective
The Western Transportation Institute will take a proof of concept mobile data collection and communication system, developed under contract for the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) and ready it for field test by finalizing software to accommodate hardware updates and to increase usability and durability of the system.
Abstract
The Responder project developed the data elements, performance and functional requirements for the pilot deployment of an at-scene incident data collection system with the capacity to transmit the data to the Redding, California Traffic Operations Center (TOC). The Responder System integrates hardware, software, and communications to provide incident responders, particularly those in remote rural areas, with a structured, easy to use means for collection and digital communication of incident information. As a follow up, this UTC project will allow WTI to make a Tablet PC and cellular communication card field test ready to be used by Caltrans during a winter with excessive precipitation to ensure the system will be prepared for production use.
