Weather Responsive Management Strategies (WRMS) help transportation agencies alleviate the impacts of weather and better manage the highway system during inclement weather. WRMS utilize mobile road weather and traffic data to inform travelers of existing and impending unsafe travel conditions, reduce delays by optimizing the flow of traffic using various control devices, and implement appropriate maintenance activities prior to and during adverse weather. For example, WRMS will help agencies monitor and control the amount of salt and other chemicals they use to treat the roads during a snow or ice event.
The U.S. Federal Highway Administration leads the Every Day Counts 5 (EDC-5) Weather Responsive Management Strategies (WRMS) Initiative. The objective of this project is to provide technical assistance to the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), their State Departments of Transportation stakeholders, and other public agency partners to implement Weather Responsive Management Strategies (WRMS). WTI will provide project support to ICF International, which is serving as the project lead. WTI will assist with tasks related to project management, case studies, fact sheets, technical workshops, stakeholder meetings, and site visits.
