Traveler Info Database Requirements Analysis
Started: December, 2004 Ended: October, 2006 Project ID #4W0389 Status: Completed
Objective
To develop recommendations that will facilitate integration of MDT’s traveler information databases into a single system, and to identify other potential upgrades and improvements.
Abstract
Traveler information is a key component of the service that Departments of Transportation (DOT) provide to the traveling public. Information is disseminated about weather, road conditions, chain requirements, incidents, construction, detours, load restrictions, etc. Behind the technologies that provide traveler information there are databases that collect, store, and disseminate the information. MDT currently uses two separate database systems to feed these technologies; summer reporting and winter reporting. A lack of integration of these two database systems makes for inefficient system operation and training. Furthermore, these systems have limited reporting capabilities. In this project, researchers will analyzes requirements and recommend a single database system that addresses these concerns and will be flexible for future enhancements.
