Started: January, 2017 End Date: December, 2017 Project ID #4w6539 Status: Ongoing
Objective
The objective of this project is to study the safety and training culture within local and tribal transportation agencies.
Abstract
The National Center for Rural Road Safety (Safety Center) recently completed a study of the availability and use of workforce training resources at state Departments of Transportation. The study included recommendations for improving accessibility by creating an institutional climate that prioritizes both safety and training. In this follow-up project, the Safety Center will adapt the previous approach to study the safety and training culture within local and tribal agencies The results of this study will be compared to those found for state DOT agencies to highlight specific factors that are important to the unique cultural and operational environments of local and tribal agencies. The goal of these analyses will be to propose strategies that help local and tribal agencies increase access to and use of safety training resources by their staff members.
